The Abuja #RampUpNigeria Awareness Walk, a collaboration between Platinum Intervention and Voice Out Foundation, was an opportunity to bring to the consciousness of the general public the need to build an inclusive society for all… especially for persons living with disabilities.
We had the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Disability Matters, Dr. Samuel Ankeli, foremost disability rights advocates (Honourable Lois Auta, Mr. Usman Liman), representatives from the National Orientation Agency and some media outlets walk the entire way with us, educating passersby, drivers and business owners on the need to make Nigeria accessible and inclusive for all.
The message is simple: people with disabilities are full members of the society who deserve to be as independent and as productive as everyone else. We cannot continue to live in the shadows as though we don’t exist. Discrimination of whatever kind against children, women and men with disabilities need to end. A new day has come.
I just want to express my profound gratitude to everyone who showed up for this walk and to all our sponsors and partners. This couldn’t have been possible without you all. Thank you!
